By launching the ASUS VC239H, ASUS is tapping that section of the market that is price conscious and still want to have a monitor that offers them one of the best features available in high-end monitors. As you will read our review, you will see what are the points where ASUS VC239H excels the most and what are the things in which it lags behind so you get to make an informed decision based on your preference when looking at this ASUS IPS Monitor.

The Best Bang For The Buck – Asus IPS Monitor

Normally, a monitor is that part of the system which is least fancy in terms of looks. However, ASUS has broken this stereotype by introducing ASUS VC239H – a 23-inch IPS monitor that has narrow bezels, curvy body and matte display, giving it a dashing look and great presence on a desk. On top of that, ASUS VC239H doesn’t compromise on features and includes some of the latest display technologies including eye care and flicker-free technology. And the best part about ASUS VC239H? It’s pretty cheap. Currently, ASUS VC239H is one of the most affordable IPS monitor currently available in the market.

However, with so many features and special focus on design aesthetics, ASUS VC239H  does have some drawbacks. With such slim design and almost bezel-less screen, there’s no room for an internal PSU in this ASUS IPS Monitor. Therefore, users have to deal with the external PSU that resembles a lot like a laptop’s power adapter. ASUS VC239H does have built-in speakers but they are present just for the sake of an added feature. In reality, they

Display Performance of the Asus VS239H-J – Asus IPS Monitor

IPS Panels are always way ahead of standard TN panels in almost all aspects. Same goes for the ASUS VC239H 23-inch IPS monitor. The monitor has superb viewing angles and has great color reproduction capability which also helps in achieving great black levels and showing depth of darker colors on the screen. Overall, the color accuracy is spot on.

ASUS VC239H has 8 preset modes, 3 skin-tone modes and 4 color temperature modes to choose from. This gives user a number of different configurations to try based on what they are viewing on the monitor. With such variety of configurations available, the monitor can be tuned for almost any scenario – gaming, watching movies, graphic designing or just text editing. The standard mode on the ASUS VC239H slightly increases the contrast ration from 1000:1 to 1115:1 at the cost of overall color accuracy. However, this trade-off truly shines when watching movies or images on the monitor. Games or movie scenes where there are dim lights and dark environments, ASUS VC239H handles them pretty well.

However, while running the PassMark MonitorTest tool, it was noticed that on the lower right part of the screen, there is a noticeable amount of glow when there is a darker image opened on the screen or if the monitor is being used in a room with no light. However, it was only reported by very few people so this could be just a model-specific issue.

Build and comfort

Thin bezels, slim design and non-vesa mount makes ASUS VC239H a pretty lightweight monitor to have. Just like the screen, the back of the monitor features a matte finish as well. Unlike the ASUS VX239H, which is almost similar to ASUS VC239H in terms of main features and has pretty decent looking stand, ASUS VC239H has the ordinary looking one.

The buttons on the ASUS VC239H are located beneath the display panel. ASUS went with the physical buttons instead of sensor buttons where you have to put your finger specifically at the sensor spot to trigger the function of the button of this ASUS IPS Monitor..

Since ASUS VC239H has a normal base/stand which can only be tilted back and forth. We have seen that quite a large number of IPS monitors have vesa mounts. Dell UltraSharp IPS displays comes with these mounts as they support all sorts of movement – back and forth, up and down and can even change the orientation of the monitor to portrait. There are vesa mounting holes at the back if anyone want to wall mount the monitor or use an aftermarket vesa mount.

Add-ons

Add-ons are usually those features or technology that each manufacturer introduces into their own lineup of products and claim to enhance the productivity and overall quality of their product. ASUS VC239H has few such features to show off.

The first one is the ASUS Eye Care technology. According to ASUS, with the help of this technology, they save the viewer from suffering CVS or otherwise known as Computer Vision Syndrome. Usually, every monitor manufacturer has similar agenda but with a different name. In case of ASUS, they have explained it pretty well how it works and what’s so special about it.

The second one is the ASUS Flicker-Free technology. Since these IPS Panels use LED-backlit to light up the display, users can experience screen flickering a lot when the display is on low brightness settings as the LEDs rapidly goes on and off to maintain a specific brightness level. ASUS Flicker-Free technology uses Smart Dynamic Backlight Adjustment to reduce this screen flickering, providing a smooth and comfortable viewing experience to a user.

Another great feature in the ASUS VC239H is the GamePlus feature. This feature is normally found in the ASUS ROG Swift gaming display monitors. GamePlus function enables an OSD crosshair and timer functions while playing a game. With the help of this feature, users can track the time of spawn and build time of different units using the on-screen timer. A great value-added feature for people who want to use ASUS VC239H for gaming.

Connectivity

ASUS VC239H is one of those limited IPS monitors that don’t have a DisplayPort nor a USB port. It includes 1x HDMI port, 1x DVI-D port, 1x VGA port and 1x 3.5mm audio port for using monitor’s internal speakers. People who are going for single monitor setup will not miss the DisplayPort. However, for triple monitor display, DisplayPort helps a lot.

People usually ignore the importance of a Dual-link DVI port. Since ASUS VC239H has it, you can also use it with your MacBook or even with a console like Xbox One or PS4 as well.
