Pros of the HP Pavilion Gaming Monitor
- Sleek Design

Cons of this HP Pavilion Monitor
- No USB Ports

- Lack of Adjustability

Design and Features of this HP Pavilion Monitor
The HP Pavilion 22xi is features a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution on its display. The display improves image clarity and color brightness by utilizing HP Bright View coating which is a blessing and a curse due to its reflectivity. Some users will find that under different lighting conditions the screen can become mirror-like. This is annoying when a dark image is displayed on the screen and the only thing you can see are the things behind you.
The cabinet of this monitor is very thin and sleek, it measures 0.5 inches in thickness. There is a curve in the back with an HP Logo etched into the plastic.
Another one of the downsides to this monitor is the lack of USB ports, speakers, audio ports, and webcam. However, there are three outward facing video ports included which are the HDMI, DVI, and VGA along with a power jack. This means that this monitor can be hooked to gaming consoles without the need for an HDMI adapter.
The weight of the cabinet is a bit much at close to 7 pounds, but high-quality parts factor into this such as the brushed metal base with a hinge that can tilt 30 degrees. Another downside is the lack of adjustability of the monitor and not containing VESA mounting holes to be wall mounted. There are no options for adjusting height, swivel, or pivot.
The front of the monitor features adjustment buttons that users can quickly use to change display settings. Alternatively, users can utilize the My Display software provided by HP to change settings via the keyboard and mouse. These settings include four different gamma options which are off, low, medium, and high, contrast, brightness, and four color temperature settings. The color temperature settings are limited to warm, standard, cool, and custom.
The HP Pavilion 22xi also includes a quick view menu that allows users to choose between one of five preset picture settings that include gaming, text, photo, movie and HP Enhance+. HP Enhance Plus allows users to employ a noise reduction feature with low, medium, and high settings.
The My Display utility allows users to set contrast and brightness levels to their preferred positions. The utility also contains a calibration tool to allow users to change grayscale settings and a partitioning tool that allows the user to drag windows to any open partition and define split screen regions.
Gaming Performance of the HP Pavilion 22xi Gaming Monitor
There are many better choices out there for gaming performance but the HP Pavilion 22xi is not horrible considering its low-price point of under $200. The 22xi is a strong competitor among monitors in this price range.
Off-angle viewing is not bad at all. When viewed off angle, colors stay highly saturated and uniform across the screen. The IPS panel could display all the different shades of the Display Mate 64 step Grayscale test but the darkest shades are a little lighter than they should be. Although not a major deal, there will be some loss of detail in black and white images.
HD content is very finely detailed, crisp, and clear. Small images and text are well formed and very easy to see and read.
The 6-7ms response time does an okay job of displaying fast motion but there will be image blur in high-speed gaming scenarios.

Conclusion on this HP Pavilion Gaming Monitor
The HP 22xi monitor is a very nice choice for users who are looking for a monitor that is reasonably priced and do not mind sacrificing some features for a lower price.
The monitor has decent performance and very good looks. However, the monitor is lacking in many areas such as adjustability and options such as built-in speakers, webcam, or not having VESA mounting holes to mount this monitor to a wall. Some situations in gaming and movie watching with dark areas are also annoying because of the reflective nature of the coating that HP used on this monitor. These reflections make it quite difficult to view anything that is being shown on the screen in these dark situations.
The bezel-free design is also a very nice touch with this IPS monitor. It adds to the overall aesthetics of this monitor and looks is one of the things that this offering from HP has going for it.
The monitor does come with an industry standard three-year warranty which is always a good thing.
In conclusion, this may not be the ideal monitor for a hardcore gaming enthusiast, but it is a very nice option for the weekend warrior or gamer who is on a tight budget.
